Have you ever been frustrated by the decisions made or laws passed by local, state or federal policymakers? Are you concerned that problems such as poor road quality, traffic congestion and distracted driving—things that directly affect your freedom of mobility and safety—will take a back seat to other issues? Do you think that your voice just won’t be heard amidst the clamoring chatter of special interests?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you are not alone. So what’s the solution? Get involved! In an election year featuring a race for governor and many other statewide offices, your involvement is more important than ever. Political races can be won or lost by only a few votes, as we have seen in many instances. In our representative form of government, it really is up to “We The People…” to elect or re-elect leaders who can make a difference and be vocal on issues that are important to us.

Here’s how you can help...And how we can help you:

Register to vote. Nearly 25 percent of those eligible still aren’t registered to vote. The deadline for registering in this year’s General Election is Oct. 10.

Learn about the candidates and the issues. Get educated about who’s running for office and understand their positions on issues of importance to you. Read about proposed amendments to your state’s constitution; these proposals are often too complex to digest when you get to the voting booth.

Visit aaa.com/vote. This website is your one-stop interactive resource for political action, education and involvement.

Vote on or before Nov. 7, 2006. Get out and vote on Election Day, vote early or file for an absentee ballot.

Stay Involved. Get involved in the issues that affect you and your community; stay informed and use the aaa.com/vote website to quickly contact your state and U.S. legislators by e-mail, phone or fax when it matters the most.

With aaa.com/vote, it’s easy for you to register to vote, learn about candidates, and contact your state, federal and local elected officials. We will provide updates on pending legislation and even suggest message points, should you wish to make your position known. And if you disagree with us, we ask that you be just as vocal with your representatives in expressing that opposite viewpoint.

Auto Club South is your trusted and vocal advocate in the state legislature and, through AAA’s offices in Washington, DC, represents your interests to Congress. Protecting and advancing freedom of mobility and improving travel safety is our purpose and our daily call to action. But your personal involvement and participation in the democratic process is what matters most. With your support, the collective 4 million members of AAA Auto Club South can make a difference!
