The Weeks Air Museum is an exceptional museum that focuses on aircraft from the earliest days of flight through World War II. The approximately 40 aircraft housed here include aerobatic planes and small passenger planes, as well as military planes from the United States and several other countries. Unlike those in many other exhibits, most of the aircraft are maintained in flying condition. A wide range of propellers and engines are also on display with a selection of gun mounts. There are several video presentations of various aspects of aeronautics, including one featuring the squadron of African-American aviators trained at Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. These aviators compiled an outstanding record against the Nazis in World War II. The museum’s aircraft and other displays were substantially damaged in August 1992 by Hurricane Andrew. As a result, some of the aircraft previously on display were restored. The building itself has been completely restored.
