Seniors Drivers
Assisting Our Aging Drivers

Senior Drivers   AAA is dedicated to keeping senior road-users driving as long as safely possible. When it is not possible for seniors to drive, AAA is also committed to promoting viable transportation options for seniors such as supplemental transportation programs.

Lifelong Safe Mobility is AAA's assocation-wide priority issue intended to help seniors stay both safe and mobile. Our society will face new challenges as our baby boomers become seniors. in fact, Americans over the age of 65 are the fastest-growing population and by the year of 2020, there will be more than 40 million licensed drivers 65 and older. As AAA has been instrumental in issues related not only to travel, but to safe and efficient travel in the past, we will continue to work hard to ensure that all members of our society are afforded safe mobility throughout their lives.

Driving is a function of ability, not age. However, driving ability is affected by natural changes to our bodies over time. AAA is dedicated to keeping seniors driving as long as safely possible. www.AAASeniors.com contains challenges and tools to help extend safe driving and making the decision of when to stop driving for families of older drivers.

Senior Programs / Materials

Roadwise Review
This state-of-the-art, computer-based driving tool "AAA Roadwise Review: A Tool to Help Seniors Drive Safely Longer,' was developed by AAA and noted transportation safety researchers.. In the privacy and comfort of their own homes, this CD-ROM enables users to measure the functional abilities scientifically linked to crash risk among older drivers. On completion, this program identifies potential problem areas and suggests ways to correct them. Just as individuals monitor their physical health, users of AAA Roadwise Review can screen for changes in their driving health too.
CarFit
Developed as a communit-based activity, the CarFit program is designed to help mature drivers find out how well their car "fits" and what actions they can take to improve that fit. Developed in collaboration with the American Society on Aging, AARP and the American Occupational Therapy Association, the program also provides an opportunity to open a positive, non-threatening conversation about older driver safety and driver wellness. In addition, CarFit offers specific, practical community resources to help older drivers maintain and strengthen their wellness for ensuring safe, independent driving.
Florida Mature Driver Online Program
This online course is for anyone 55 years of age or older. Those who take the 6-hour class may receive a mandatory reduction on their insurance rates (check with your insurance company to see what the discount would be).
Senior Driver Materials
AAA offers several brochures designed to help mature drivers stay safe and make the most of vehicle ownership.
